DESCRIPTION: APW – Illinois, Sangamo Special, 23J, marked 60 Hour, 17S, white gold-filled OF original Sangamo Special model rigid bow case, cuvette with signature ring, Montgomery white enamel DS dial with "Heavy Gothic" style numerals, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, broad transverse band pattern nickel damascene, s#4758832. An excellent example of this top grade railroad watch with the very desirable Montgomery version of the Heavy Gothic numeral Sangamo Special dial. Total production of the marked 60 Hour version of the Sangamo Special is estimated as 2200 made per Mike Chamelin's "Sangamo Special - Beginning to End" book. This example comes with an associated pull apart aluminum "Sangamo Special - Bunn Special" box and also with a Sangamo Special marked outer box. CONDITION: Mvt: GRO...
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, near mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, some micro-fine scratches; dial has short hl below seconds-register near 6, micro-fine scratch or extremely faint hl in outer chapter at 1; excellent-plus hands, minute hand with speck of oxide on tip, hour hand with small bit of bluing loss; case shows little wear, scattered fine scratches on rear, ding on band at 9, two minuscule nicks to rear, excellent engraving detail; rigid bow with excellent engraving detail, crown shows very little wear; good glass crystal; outer box shows medium wear, some tattering and areas of separation at edges, writing in ink on reverse, corners are taped on inside, labels still present and legible, front label with no s# marking and with some paper loss in the area this is typically marked, few tears, inner aluminum case shows light wear, few dings, a cloth liner has been added.
